Vegan Bake Sale Event!

Since I met Helen (@SocialVeganHK) for the first time in early Jan, we talked about collaborating on a project. After planning and sorting out logistics, we decided on a bake sale event.

Because I wanted to sell my treats to the HK public, I had to bake my desserts in a licensed kitchen. Helen knows the staff at pop-up by social club, a cafe in Wan Chai, and they were kind enough to let me use their kitchen at Drip by social club. Baking in this kitchen meant that I was able to sell my treats to the public!

After getting the kitchen date and time sorted, I started planning. This included packaging designs, the treats I would be making, the cost and price of each dessert/box and so on. I loved this process and seriously had so much fun doing it. I know planning and sorting out logistics is stressful for some people, but for me it wasn’t too stressful! Once I had a design, my mom helped me get the stickers printed and the boxes ordered. This happened a month to 3 weeks before the weekend of the event, so we were in good shape.

On February 22 (Friday), we didn’t have school due to Parent Teacher Conferences, so I spent the whole morning baking at home. Since I was selling this batch to family friends, it is okay to bake and sell from home since I know who I am selling to (in other words, you do not need the kitchen license). I was in the kitchen from 7am-11am before I had to start my day. When I got back (around 2pm), the oven was still on and we were still baking! So fortunate to have helpers to help me watch the oven while I have to be out!

The next day (February 23, Saturday), I headed to the professional kitchen at Drip by social club in Wan Chai. I was there from 9am-1:30pm. It was here that I baked everything to sell to the HK public. Baking in a professional kitchen was actually quite fun! Since it was just my mom and I, it was really quiet. The fridge was huge and so were the ovens (which were super efficient!). It was a really fun Saturday morning!

The next day (February 24, Sunday), I sold my treats at Pop Up by social club, a cafe in Wan Chai. People could drop by and buy my treats by the piece (I sold them for $8 per piece). Two of my friends (Charlotte and Daria) even stopped by and bought stuff! (thank you so much haha). Since I had baked so much, I was allowed to keep my treats there for the staff at Pop up to keep selling for a few more days.
